DJ Here Are The Facts You Requested

In San Miguel de Allende, we have become friends with folks that opened a cool international flavored cafe. They serve Texas chili, Swiss meatballs, and Italian pasta.

In the pouring rain with flooded streets, I dragged my ass out to the cafe to join an open jam with the propieter Ben, Federico a flamenco guitar player, a guitarist and a bassist. We've since joined him, fiance Mirelle, sister to watch sister Jocelyn at the local art circus restaurant where they serve German beer and sausages.

The next weekend, Akire and I DJ'd there for the first of a few times.

The End of the Road

Today was the furthest south we will go on this journey. Barra de Potosi, 40km south of Zihuatanejo. From here, the submarine turns northward.

We have seen a lot of beaches on this trip. Beaches, I have learned, all have different flavors. Different pitch and shade to the sand. Different force of waves and angle of sun. More or less hospitable to feet. The playa at Barra de Potosi won in the grandeur and tranquility categories.

A long walk with cool ocean air on one side and hot sun on the other. Giant spray over Adam's head. Aquatic eruptions yielding mounds of bubbling foam.
Well known is the rhythmic crashing sound of waves, but my favorite is the fizzing hiss as the last lick of water soaks back into the sand.

Lama bobbing for coconuts in the surf. Warm wife skin slippery with sunblock.

Lovely meal of pescado frito, pina coladas, sunset and hammocks as the egrets and pelicans dine Laguna Potosi.

Whales in Cabo: Early; Back to Tropics

A diversion: 'Pack leader' went to Cabo San Lucas and saw whales entering the Sea of Cortez, greatest natural aquarium of the world...the whales are early this year and as usual showing off their skills on this annual winter migration occasion.
Virgin of Guadalupe festival commenced 12 December, with points won for the Virgin visiting the Casino Caliente, on the main blvd. during the Chicago vs. St. Louis NFL Game.
DJ Mentos the Freshm'k'r had a gig (a birthday party) in the hood, with points won for family style cooking and the latest in tunes from San Francisco.
Going out to sea - meals, catch you later.

Miracle at the beach

We are now in Zihuatanejo. Our daily ritual is to take the dog to the beach, after the heat of the day is broken, to go watch the sun fall into the ocean. Usually we head straight to our favorite place Cocodrillos. Today however, I approached from a different road where I saw a number of people sitting by some sort of roadside alter. Stopping to take a picture, I saw the following sign:

I approached to photograph surreptitiously, but was waved in a man. His cousin had discovered this new apparition of the Virgin de Guadalupe on the trunk of this tree just ten days earlier. If you don't know the original virgin was herself an apparition and her day is celebrated throughout Mexico on 12 December.

So our local beach had yielded the latest miracle. See for yourself--when was the last time you saw bark look that much like that Virgin of Guadalupe?
